YOURSELF's second CD is "Dragon Jam on My
Wig":
there are 9 tracks on this CD, which was completed
in 1998:
Here are the "liner notes" from this
album:
"Twylyte One" "The Day People
Came" "Pearl of Great Price" and "the Power are scratch
takes from our eventual studio CD "On the Loose Wig" which has been
proceeding at the pace of an arthritic snail due to our Geo Metro eating all
of our money. We hope to bring it to conclusion somewhere before the real
beginning of the next millennium.
"Magnified Illusion" "the Coming of
the Hamsters" and the jellylike "Centrifugal Farce" were
recorded on one of the few days that another obstinate machine, our 4-track
cassette recorder, actually deigned to function. All of these tracks were
recorded in 1997 with the profuse talents of astounding Alex Eackley's kinetic
explosions on drum set and the Argentinean Avatar of the bass, Alberto Raffin.
The actually "song" songs, other than "Centrifugal
Farce"--in which we were all spontaneously abducted by mutant songwriters
from another dimension-- were all written by H. Anshell, although "the
Day People Came" was partly written by Hyperdrive.
Also included here is the unique recording of
"White Dragon" that we put together for the 100th episode of
"YOURSELF presents", our cable TV show, recorded live in the studio
on November 14, 1992. Besides Diane on flute and vocals and Howard on Gibson
"Ripper" Bass, we were lucky to assemble a one of a kind band
that started with Todd Gilbert on Congas and Bruce Root on Bongos. Fronting
these able percussionists we had an eclectic trio that started with the Master
of the Mandolin Robert Rotzler. To spice up the blend, we added the tasty
guitar of Dominick Giovanniello. Dominick also played his own invention, the
Vulcan Harp, which you may have seen in the "Star Trek V" movie.
And, as if one musical inventor wasn't enough, we were also honored to work
with the incomparable Bill Wesley, who creates his own "Array"
instruments, such as the "Mbira" (which is what sounds like two
vibraphones on "White Dragon"-- it's rather like a large Kalimba).
Not only that, but Bill has devised his own system of arranging tones on a
instrument--the "Array"--allowing him to explore harmonic
combinations in a different way. Our thanks to all of these talented
musicians, many of whom also contributed to "On the Other Subconscious
Hand"--named after something I heard CNN News Speculator Jeff Greenfield
say -- which is kind of like New Agey Preserves, as though we had all been
kinda hypnotically regressed into, like, more evolved beings, you know?
Special thanks to Bob Arlauskas, Kye Biedebach and
Jay Wolters for their many late nights of help in recording the CD and the art
layout. The dragon, the logo and the parity couple were drawn by Dennis and
Olivia Behm. Noise-busting final mix by Rafter Roberts.
Authentically Bizarre!
